Have you ever just taken a moment to be still?
Be still, and know I am God.
A favorite hymn, one prone to tearful honesty. What would you think of if you spent a few hours in silence? Family comes to mind, concerns break through, smiles at the thought of love, pain at the thought of loss. Importance isn't loud; it's everything that surfaces when you close your eyes.
So do I know of you, or do I truly know you? Your face sticks out in a crowd and your name comes quick with association. Can we carry on like old friends? We've both written pages that reveal the raw ties of our being, but their bindings are thick to my fleeting attention span. I'm a stranger to my own pages recently, and the time that fails its support is even more scarce to seek your story. Could you set my hand to record you? New words, fresh ears, a voice clear in mine. Conversation seems so much quicker when my eyes wander from pages.
Patience is my underestimated virtue that I've accepted an invitation to appreciate. I know now where the story breaks into color, into something I can picture as vividly as a photograph. Light behind a flat page and the single color of ink, my mental re-inaction of your story.
Suddenly, you cross the room as I stand unsure, and with a hand on my shoulder, simply ask me about my day.
And we talk.
Free of formality and dated terms, I see who you are instead of who you've been made out to be. This isn't a new friendship. It's family rekindled, home once again.

Update
Before I begin, please forgive me my absence. This s still one of my favorite places in the world, but between work and keeping up with friends and family, summer didn't exactly offer up much prime writing time. With a creative writing class in my lineup and 2-3 nights a week working wee hours, I have absolutely no excuse NOT to make up for lost time. So why not start now?
I've been meaning to post the piece I wrote while I was at the Great Banquet, and I'll get that up hopefully tomorrow when I get my notebook in front of me. I'll definitely be throwing creative writing class tidbits up here, maybe even some goodies from Sales writing if I find them entertaining enough. Something I'm really excited about, however, is a site I found out about today. My latest writing endeavor comes in the form of 750words.com, one I'm going to do my damndest to keep up with. The concept is awesome, and I hope to look back on it as a tangled mess of thoughts that assembles something like a journal. If I have something I'm fond of that develops in my ranting, I'll be sure to throw it on here as well.
Anyway, I just figured I'd drop in to let you know I'm still here, and fully intend to throw some new material your way. A gem tomorrow, guaranteed!
